To our deight, Spacemakers are really laying it on thick with the free things at the Bixton Vilalge Market this Saturday. The day will be jam packed with loads of things to do including free theatre, free food tastings, workshops and free live music….the list is endless and there loads to do for everyone. The day events spill over to the evening with an after party. Spacemakers have kindly sent us a list of whats going on:

Workshops:

Make your own carnival masks, jazz up old clothes or learn new moves!
Let art collective Nueva Generacion guide you in a day of workshops covering capoeira, dance, street theatre, drumming, drawing/painting and circus skills!
As well as carnival mask making, we will have costume-making and child-based clothes workshops like potato printing

Live Music:

The forecourt will become our very own culture club stage for the day!
Building on last week’s highly successful performers’ day, we bring you a day of music from rock-reggae to cumbia, planned to spontaneous jams! We’ll be building a Brixton geo-piano: home grown music wheeled down from Streatham hill! Bring your ears and/or instruments, and don’t forget your dancing shoes!

Theatre:

Pop-up plays running all day: if we tell you too much, we will ruin the surprise!
But there were queues round the block last week, so expect something pretty damn special…

Food Tastings

Travel the world with your fork, spoon and chopsticks! From sweet to savoury, known to unknown… forget come dine with us, these tastings will make you travel!

Carnival:

David Caneva will get you in the mood with his documentaries of the Cartagena Carnival… The day will culminate in our culture club parade, from 3.45 pm:
so grab your glad rags, come make a mask, and come dance with us to our multi-cultural beats!

Culture Club after-party at the Dogstar:

Join us as we take our Culture Club upstairs at the Dogstar. There will be live music from rock reggae to Colombian, jazz to improvised jams! Documentaries from Notting hill Arts Club Resident David Caneva and others. Dance and Capoeira Demonstrations.

And DJs for later on, when everyone just wants to dance until the wee hours. From 8pm-3am £3 suggested donation in advance (tickets will be available in the market during the day) and before 10pm
£5 after 10pm: tell them that you are coming to see us on the door!
