Yesterday, I tried out the set lunch at New Fook Lam Moon, a modest, traditional Chinese restaurant located in Chinatown, Leicester Square, and was most satisfied with the food quality and portions there for just six quid (price inclusive of service charge and a complimentary pot of tea).

menu-edit

The set lunch, served on weekdays from noon until 5pm, offers a daily soup or vegetarian spring rolls as starter (on that day it happens to be one of my favourite Chinese soups, meat consumme with carrots) allows you to have your pick of the main course from an appealing list which includes sweet and sour chicken, Singapore fried noodles, beef in black bean sauce served with rice, roast duck with rice, special fried rice, barbecued pork and wonton noodles, etc. Your main course also comes with a seasonal vegetables in oyster sauce. Bear in mind that portion is huge and service is no-nonsense and efficient. I ordered barbecued pork and wonton noodles: the pork and wonton were tasty and fresh although the soup base could have been richer. Best of all, they also serve you with a pot of Chinese tea, which is highly refreshing.

They even offer a complimentary dessert - four slices of oranges. It is a delicious bargain
