Bistro 1 is a small chain, with a total of four London locations under their belt, three restaurants in Soho, and one in the nearby Covent Garden area, making them a convenient option for all those who visit the heart of the city on a regular basis. They offer a wide array of meals with an underlying Mediterranean feel, from Turkish spicy sausage starters, to Mousaka mains, and Tiramisu desserts. The selection varies in both origin and taste, with several vegetarian options for each course.
Bistro 1 have several different price options, with a two-course lunch setting you back £6.90 (10am-4pm), an extra course only an additional £1. Prices increase for the dinner service (4pm-11.30pm), though the menu remains the same, but it still weighs in at a perfectly reasonable £9.90 for two-courses and £10.90 for three. There are also several ‘Chef’s specials’, ranging from Pan-fried swordfish, to Chargrilled rib-eye steak, that incur an increased levy of either £1.50 during the lunch service, or £2 during the evening.
With a licence to serve alcohol on site, and a fairly comprehensive wine list, they are great for large groups and parties, but can also be an ideal stop-off on a romantic date, with the staff lighting candles come evening, and flowers adorning each table throughout the day. They also offer a take-away service for local businesses who order in advance and are able to pick-up from one of the three Soho restaurants.
Once seated in one of their restaurants you are provided with a complimentary bread basket brimming with delicious, warm, foccacia bread and a mixture of black and green olives. The staff will refill the bread throughout the starter and main course at your request.
The portions of the meals are fairly small, but the courses seem to perfectly compliment each other, leaving you neither bloated nor hungry, even without a dessert. For the end of a meal they boast clean and well-maintained facilities, and a hot chocolate to die for.
The combination of tasty meals, good service, a great price and free WIFI access, make Bistro 1 restaurants a must-do when in and around the West End.
