Christmas at London’s newest canal
When: 20th Dec 2009 12-5pm
Where: City Road Basin Plaza, Islington, EC1
Price: FREE
Website: Islington council
The City Road Basin is a former industrial site, which fell into decline in the 50s and 60s. The site remained undeveloped, unattractive and inaccessible to the public for many years.
Be one of the first to see this exciting new public space open. What was once an industrial wasteland has been transformed through a multi-million pound project. It has created public access to the waterway – one of the largest open stretches of water in North London, complete with a newly landscaped public park facing onto the canal.
The opening on the 20th will host festive activities including Christmas markets, boat trips, Santa’s Grotto on board the Angel boat, Carol singing, a snow machine, mulled wine and mince pies and a giant tree Christmas lights switch-on.
